Sedro Woolley

Sedro-Woolley, known as the "Gateway to the North Cascades", is situated north of Seattle, Washington.  It is south of Bellingham, Washington on Highway 20, along the banks of the Skagit River.  Sedro-Woolley is on the western edge of the majestic Cascade Mountain Range.

Sedro-Woolley is centrally located, near the Pacific Coast, with a mild year-round climate and a naturally attractive setting at the base of the Cascade Mountains. It is a peaceful small town with a population of a little over 12,000, that provides all the services of a much larger city. There is a police department, fire department, wastewater treatment plant, solid waste operation, stormwater division, manufacturing facilities, street department, post office, parks department, schools, and a vibrant downtown area.

There are several residential areas near Sedro-Woolley such as Clear Lake, Big Lake, and Tanwax Lake for those that prefer living near the water but close to the town.

The city maintains many public parks and open spaces including:

Hammer Heritage Square - opened as the only downtown park in Sedro-Woolley in the fall of 2005, the park has long been a gathering point for the town being home to local celebrations and the weekly Farmers Market.

Riverfront Park - situated on the north bank of the Skagit River is the signature park in Sedro-Woolley. It consists of nearly 60 acres and includes picnic shelters, baseball fields, an RV park, an amphitheater, and an off-leash dog park.

Sedro-Woolley is home to the North Cascades National Park (an area of 1,070 square miles) where you can hike, boat, camp, horseback ride, view wildlife, fish, or mountaineer from the temperate rainforest of the wet west side to the dry ponderosa pines of the east.

The North Cascades Institute and Learning Center provide a retreat setting with overnight accommodations, a conference center, meeting spaces, and several options to enjoy the pristine landscape, deep forests, lakes, and trails of the North Cascades.

The downtown area of Sedro Woolley boasts a gift store, fabric store, quilt shop, banks, pet spa, automotive supplies, bakeries, antiques, grocery stores, tire store, hardware/farmers supply stores, lumber store, drug store, and a farmer’s market.

Restaurants in Sedro- Wolley

Restaurants include a variety of cafes, restaurants, and grills to suit all tastes. The locals voted Joys Bakery, Mestizo Mexican, and Cascade Pizza among the best in 2020.

In the area around Sedro Woolley, there are several gourmet dining options such as The Oyster Bar, Chuckanut Manor Seafood and Grill, and the Rhododendron Café. The Eagle Haven Winery, located east of the city, has a year-round tasting room.

Sedro-Wolley's Major Events

The most notable event in Sedro Woolley is the Loggerodeo that takes place yearly in July and includes:

An International chainsaw carving competition. Armed with a chainsaw, ax, and a few tools, “Chainsaw Carvers” whittle an 8-foot high, 3-foot wide piece of Cedar into some of the most amazing art forms found anywhere. This is a must-see.

A Rodeo for loggers demonstrating each task a logger is required to perform as a logger.

A carnival, foot-race, log drive, old-time logging show, championship rodeo, and children's parade.

Fourth of July parade and festival featuring log trucks, floats, riders, marching bands, drill teams, music, and local celebrities.

Janicki Industries is the largest employer in Sedro Woolley. It is a privately owned engineering and manufacturing company. They specialize in advanced composite materials and exotic metals, with large-scale facilities and high precision equipment that produces high precision parts, tooling, and prototypes for aerospace, marine, space, military, wind energy, architecture, and transportation.
